Television cameras captured Weiner making the gesture to reporters as he drove away from his primary election night party Tuesday after conceding the election, CNN reported Wednesday.
Earlier, Sydney Leathers, the woman at the center of Weiner's latest sexting controversy that began the downward spiral of his mayoral campaign, showed up outside of Weiner's campaign party at Connolly's Pub and Restaurant.
"I'm here to celebrate. I think he needs some sex therapy," Leathers said, telling reporters she also was looking for publicity and time in front of the cameras.
Leathers spent several hours trying to run into Weiner, CNN said.
"We went to his campaign headquarters today first, and he decided to rearrange his schedule because apparently he doesn't think he can handle confronting me or me being in his presence so I felt like it was only appropriate to make one last stop," she said.
When Weiner finally showed up at the restaurant just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, he raced into a McDonald's restaurant next door, CNN said. He entered Connolly's through a door that connected the two restaurants.
Weiner, hit hard by revelations he was involved in sexting even after resigning his U.S. House seat over an earlier sexting scandal, collected about 5 percent of the vote with 98 percent of precincts reporting.
