WAUSAU, Wis., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin man was arrested Monday after allegedly shooting a Taylor County sheriff's deputy the previous day, the department said.

Alexander Schneider, 27, remained in custody at the Lincoln County Jail after police said he wounded Deputy Chad Kowalczyk, who was recovering at an area hospital.

Authorities said Kowalczyk was shot while responding to Schneider's reported violation of a court-ordered injunction in Westboro, Sunday.

Bystanders provided Kowalczyk first aid while paramedics rushed to the scene, WAOW-TV, Wausau, reported.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Department hadn't said what charges would be filed against Schneider and provided no further information about their investigation.
