Young girl dies after shooting self at Yellowstone National Park

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- A young girl died after she shot herself with a handgun at a campground in Yellowstone National Park, a news release from the park said.

A woman called 911 Saturday morning from the Grant Village Campground, telling the emergency dispatcher that her young daughter shot herself with a handgun.

Park rangers and emergency medical staff responded to the scene, but were unable to resuscitate the girl, whose name and age were not reported.

The park said the incident is under investigation.
