ASU frat member allegedly beaten by rival house

TEMPE, Ariz., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- An Arizona State University fraternity member was beaten by members of a rival frat, the latest in a string of frat-related incidents near campus, police said.

Tempe, Ariz., police Sgt. Michael Pooley said an ASU student and member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity was beaten by members of the Pi Kappa Alpha frat when they were in an elevator together over the weekend. The victim suffered eight facial fractures, KNXV-TV, Phoenix reported Wednesday.

One member of the Pi Kappa house has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a felony. Pooley said the investigation is continuing and more arrests are likely.

Frat houses are banned from the ASU campus so city police have been left to investigate a string of incidents over the past year. Police made several arrests following a brawl at a frat house in April. In May, a student was found unresponsive in an apartment with a 0.47 percent blood alcohol level after participating in a drinking game at a frat party.

In November, a fraternity member drowned after getting drunk at an ASU frat party.
