While the federal authorities said the phone belonged to Alexis Murphy, a 17-year-old Shipman-area resident missing since Aug. 3, they did not reveal where it was found or release other details about the investigation, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.
A suspect, Randy Allen Taylor, 48, was arrested on an abduction charge Aug. 11 and was being held without bail.
Murphy disappeared while on a shopping trip to Lynchburg. Her car was found in Charlottesville and surveillance video showed her at a gas station in Lovingston the day she disappeared, the newspaper said.
A lawyer for Taylor has said the teen had been with Taylor at the suspect's home but that Taylor, who had been arranging a drug deal, was not the last person with her.
