SCAPPOOSE, Ore., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- A man was killed in Oregon this weekend when a gyrocopter crashed in a field near Scappoose, authorities said.

The Federal Aviation Administration arrived on the scene Saturday to look for the reason the small aircraft, something of a mix between an airplane and a helicopter, went down, The (Portland) Oregonian said.

Witnesses told authorities the pilot, whose name was not immediately released, was dead by the time they reached the burning aircraft.
