WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- One person was being treated for a gunshot wound and a suspect was in custody after a shooting Friday at a high school in Winston-Salem, N.C., police said.

Carver High School was on lockdown after the shooting, in which one person sustained what were described as a non-life-threatening injury, the Winston-Salem Journal reported.

The victim was treated at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, police said.

Winston-Salem Police Lt. Jeff Watson said 30 to 60 police officers responded to the school after a witness reported hearing four or five gunshots just after 2:30 p.m. EDT.

Carver's home football game Friday night against R.J. Reynolds High School was canceled, the newspaper reported.
