"It is believed Raines and Southern began communicating on-line before meeting in person approximately one week before Southern's disappearance," the Laurens County Sherriff's Office said.

Raines was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Southern was last seen alive Aug. 19 and was reported missing Aug. 20 when she failed to pick up her children from her mother's home in Zellwood.

"We are deeply saddened by the murder of Myranda Southern," family lawyer Steve Laurence of Altamonte Springs said. "The family is utterly heartbroken and devastated by this tragic act of violence."
