The injured deputy was not shot, but suffered a broken arm. A hotel guest also was shot, but the injuries were not considered life threatening.

A spokeswoman for the sheriff's office said the suspect began shooting at members of the fugitive squad, Fort Lauderdale police and the U.S. Marshals Service after they arrived at the Days Inn in Oakland Park shortly after midnight.

The identities of the dead suspect, the injured deputy and the wounded guest were not immediately released.
