Suit says Experian wrongly listed doctor with $22 million in bad debts

NEW YORK, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Credit-rating company Experian has been sued in a New York federal court by a psychiatrist who claims the company wrongly reported he had $22 million in debt.

The suit by Dr. Joseph Cannavo says Experian has tagged him with 47 mortgages he doesn't have, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

The mortgages were taken out by people with similar names but different Social Security numbers, the lawsuit claims.

The 52-page Experian report includes foreclosed homes and delinquent debts the company has refused to remove, the suit alleges, noting Cannavo's credit reports from Equifax and Transunion show him with "near perfect" credit.

The suit claims Experian's faulty report has prevented the doctor from having a credit card with more than a $1,000 limit.

An Experian spokesman declined to comment.
