MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont., Aug. 27 (UPI) -- The security chief at a nuclear missile base in Montana was fired less than a month after the base failed a safety test, officials said.
A statement from the Malmstrom Air Force Base said it relieved Col. David Lynch of his position because of "a loss of confidence in Lynch's ability to lead his group," the 341st Missile Wing.
Earlier this month, the wing received an "unsatisfactory rating" after making "tactical level errors" during several exercises conducted as part of an inspection, CNN reported.
"Lynch's removal is not a result of the recent Nuclear Surety Inspection failure. However, as the 341 [Missile Wing] prepares for a re-inspection, [Col. Robert Stanley, missile wing commander] must have full confidence in the leadership ability of his commanders," the statement said.
