Wife of Silicon Valley mogul testifies on alleged sexual abuse

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- The wife of a California real estate mogul accused her husband of sexual assault, testifying in a lawsuit seeking punitive damages.

Ellena Berg, 37, fled the witness stand Wednesday in the San Jose, Calif., courtroom, but testified Thursday, relying on notes and smelling salts. She accused her husband Clyde Berg, 74, of outfitting her with a dog collar, chaining her to a bed for two days and sexually assaulting her with a gold club while she was nine months' pregnant, The San Jose Mercury-News reported Friday.

Her submissiveness, she claimed, stemmed from abuse she suffered during her 10-year marriage to Berg, a Silicon Valley real estate developer whom the newspaper described as brother and business partner of Carl Berg, one of the richest people in the United States.

She filed a 43-page lawsuit seeking damages for alleged physical and mental abuse. Her husband contends he is a victim of a greedy scam aimed at circumventing a restrictive prenuptial agreement, the newspaper said.
