Elena Chernyakova, a former student at Northwestern University, has sued the hospital and Dr. Vinaya Puppala, WBBM-TV, Chicago, reported Wednesday.
Chernyakova was admitted to the hospital in June after heavy consumption of alcohol. She said Puppala, an acquaintance through a mutual friend, photographed her and ignored a security guard who told him to delete the pictures.
Puppala was not involved in treating her.
Chernyakova said the pictures, posted on Facebook and Instagram without her consent, could keep her from getting jobs. She is seeking $1.5 million in damages.
The hospital said breaches of privacy are not acceptable but Puppala acted as a private individual.
