Child calls 911 after man attacks mother, court records say

COOPERSBURG, Pa., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- A whispered 911 call from a child led to the arrest of a Coopersburg, Pa., man allegedly threatening to kill a woman, police said.

Coopersburg police went to a home after a they heard a whispered "Help us" during a 911 call, and learned the alleged victim, Melissa Amey and her three children were at a local convenience store, court records said.

Amey told police Miguel Espada, 48, assaulted her and threatened her, first with a dart and later with a butcher knife, saying, "I hate you and your kids and I'm going to kill you."

Espada refused police commands to leave a bedroom in the home, and after an hour of verbal commands and the arrival of a police K-9 unit, was arrested, the Easton Express-Times reported Wednesday.

Espada was charged with simple assault, possession of an instrument of a crime, reckless endangerment, making terroristic threats and harassment. Court records did not indicate the relationship between Amey and Espada.
