Woman dies in rappelling fall near Zion National Park, Utah

SPRINGDALE, Utah, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- A young woman climbing near Zion National Park in Utah died after falling 120 feet, Kane County sheriff's deputies said.

Shelby Collette Christensen, 19, of West Jordan, a suburb of Salt Lake City, was hiking and rappelling Monday with a group of five in Birch Hollow, a canyon near the national park. She began her descent down a ledge after three of her companions had rappelled down, and her hand apparently let go when it was trapped between her rope and the ledge, sheriff's deputies wrote in a statement.
