The Anchorage Daily News reported the unidentified man received life-saving first aid from a medical professional with another hunting party and then was airlifted to a hospital in Fairbanks early Friday by the Air National Guard.
The bear attack occurred about 35 miles north of Anaktuvuk Pass, the newspaper said.
Dense fog delayed efforts to get a rescue helicopter to the scene.
"The man had been suffering for approximately 36 hours with severe injuries and possible loss of life," the Air National Guard said in a statement, crediting the medical professional from the other hunting party with saving the man's life by stemming the loss of blood.
