Tropical Storm Erin moving west-northwest across Atlantic

MIAMI, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Erin was moving west-northwest across the Atlantic Ocean Thursday and was expected to strengthen over the next two days, forecasters said.

Erin was about 340 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands and was moving west-northwest at 15 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 11 p.m. EDT advisory.

Maximum sustained winds were 40 miles per hour with higher gusts.

Tropical-storm-force winds extended 35 miles from the center of the storm.

No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.
