The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office arrested William J. Faulkner Jr., 47, of Hope Mills in July for the incident, in which he met with a women he believed was willing to exchange a handicapped child for sex.
The woman was actually a sheriff's deputy who was posing as a mother of an autistic child on the online forum, The Fayetteville Observer reported Thursday.
Faulkner was charged with the unlawful sale, surrender or purchase of a minor, and indecent liberties with a child, said Debbie Tanna, a sheriff's department spokeswoman.
The department added a new charge -- solicitation to commit a felony -- Wednesday, the Observer said.
Police set bail for the new charge at $250,000.
