Investigators believe Francis Adolf, 49 -- a nurse at Virtua Health System and self-identified "Christian libertarian" -- killed his wife Bonnie and son Frankie before taking his own life, the South Jersey Times reported. Pitman police officers went to the home Tuesday morning.
Officials have not said who requested a check on the family or how the three were killed. The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said Adolf left written material suggesting he was planning to hurt his family.
Adolf had 210 followers on Twitter, where he posted messages criticizing President Barack Obama, the Catholic Church and liberal causes and figures. He sent a final tweet July 30.
"Goodbye forever, twitter. My marriage is too important. Pray for me, my wife and family. Love you all. Thanks," he wrote.
Bonnie Adolf also worked for Virtua. Frankie was a few weeks away from beginning second grade.
Pitman Mayor Russell Johnson called the killings "senseless."
"My son knew Frankie from school," Johnson told the Times. "I had to explain to my son today that Frankie went to heaven. It was really tough."
