The blaze was first sparked Wednesday near Cabazon in Riverside County, midway between Riverside and Palm Springs. At its peak, the fire forced the evacuation of 1,500 homes.

There were no fatalities, but 11 firefighters and one civilian were injured while battling the flames, KABC-TV, Los Angeles reported Monday.

The fire's cause remained under investigation.
