SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is putting himself on the national political stage by hosting an event in San Francisco to advocate for immigration reform.

FWD.us, a political advocacy group the 29-year-old founded with college roommate Joe Green, this week is co-hosting the premiere of "Documented," a documentary that looks at the stories of young immigrants who came to the United States illegally with their parents, The Hill reported Sunday.

The screening of the film is co-hosted by "Documented" director and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas' immigrant rights group Define America, the newspaper said.

"We're thrilled that he's engaged," said Carl Guardino, chief executive of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, a tech trade association that Facebook belongs to. "I'm really hoping that the opportunity is used by Mark and others to galvanize more of our tech community brethren to deeply engage immediately on immigration reform legislation during this recess in Congress."

Zuckerberg is opening the film with introductory remarks. After the screening, Green will moderate a panel including Vargas, immigrant rights activist Gaby Pacheco, Groupon founder Andrew Mason and FWD.us founder Ruchi Sanghvi.
