Ariel Castro's son says prison is best outcome for rapist dad

CLEVELAND, July 29 (UPI) -- The son of Ariel Castro, a Cleveland man who kidnapped, raped and held three women captive, says his father should be in prison "for the rest of his life."

Castro, 53, has pleaded guilty to 937 criminal counts Friday and is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday, USA Today reported.

The charges against Castro are for the kidnappings of Amanda Berry, 27, Michele Knight, 32, and Gina DeJesus, 23, whom he held captive in his basement for 10 years, repeatedly sexually abused and raped. He also fathered a child with Berry and was charged with murder for impregnating Knight, then beating her so severely her pregnancy was aborted.

The three women, who were kidnapped from Cleveland streets between 2002 and 2004, were freed in May when Berry managed to break out of Castro's basement and yelled for help.

Casto's son Anthony said in an interview with NBC's "Today" show that life in prison without the chance of parole is the best outcome for his father, and what he deserves.

"I think that if he really can't control his impulses and he really doesn't have any value for human life, the way this case has shown, then behind bars is where he belongs for the rest of his life," Anthony Castro said.

The younger Castro said he will not likely visit his father in prison.

"He's been lying to his family for the past 10, 11 years at every possible turn. I have no trust in him. I can't see myself going to visit him and giving him the opportunity to face me and lie to me again," he said, later adding: "I have nothing to say to him."
