Breaking News: Convicted Boston Marathon bomber Tsarnaev will seek a new trial

Plane crash said caused by landing gear coming down in wrong order

July 26, 2013 at 12:27 PM

NEW YORK, July 26 (UPI) -- Landing gear descended in the wrong order, causing Southwest Flight 345 to land nose-first and skid down a LaGuardia Airport runway, U.S. regulators said.

National Transportation Safety Board officials said the front landing gear came down first, causing tires to blow out when the Boeing 737-700 hit the runway, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

Investigators made the finding after studying videos of the landing and audio from cockpit recordings.

The plane was arriving at LaGuardia Airport Monday from Nashville when it made a hard landing and skidded down the runway before stopping in the grass without its front landing gear.

Ten people were treated at the scene for injuries and six of them were hospitalized.
