NEW YORK, July 24 (UPI) -- The number of anti-Semitic incidents in the United States fell by 14 percent in 2012, the Anti-Defamation League said in a press release.
The audit reported 927 anti-Semitic incidents in the United States in 2012, completing a three-year trend of incremental declines.
The ADL said the 2012 total included 17 physical assaults, 470 cases of harassment and threats, and 440 cases of vandalism.
"It is encouraging that in the past few years we have seen a fairly consistent decline in the number of anti-Semitic incidents in the United States," said Abraham H. Foxman, ADL national director.
"Still, it is disturbing that there are so many incidents in America, and we must remain vigilant in responding to them."
Despite the overall decline, there was a 33 percent increase of vandalism events from 2011 to 2012, with 440 incidents in 2012 compared to 330 in 2011, the ADL said.
The number of physical assaults remained stable from 2011 to 2012.
The states with the highest number of incidents were those with large Jewish populations, including New York, California, New Jersey, Florida, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
