Obama meets with Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus

WASHINGTON, July 23 (UPI) -- President Obama Tuesday thanked the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus for its work to expand the middle class within the Asian-American community.

Obama stressed his administration "continues to urge the House to take action to pass commonsense immigration reform that would secure our borders, crack down on illegal employment, offer a path to earned citizenship for undocumented persons, and modernize our legal immigration system so that it once again addresses our needs and reflects our values as a nation," the White House said in a statement.

The president met with CAPAC members at the White House, where both sides agreed on the need to pass immigration reform to spur the economy, create jobs and reduce the deficit.

Obama touted his efforts to bring more diversity to the executive and judicial branches of government, and CAPAC thanked him for more than doubling the number of Asian-American and Pacific Islander federal judges currently serving.

The president also thanked CAPAC for supporting the Affordable Care Act and discussed ongoing efforts to implement the law known as Obamacare.
