The victim, whose name had not been released, was described by police as a 22-year-old Latino man, the newspaper said.

Police Lt. Kamran Khan said the three occupants of the Kia and two people in the Challenger exchanged words twice while traveling on Branford Street and the driver of the Challenger, described as a Latino in his early 20s, then allegedly fired a .40-caliber handgun at the Kia's driver.

Los Angeles police said anyone with information about the driver of the Challenger can call Mission Division Homicide at (818) 838-9976 and ask for Detective Ryan Verna, or call an anonymous tip line at 800-222-TIPS, or text at 274637.
