Nearly 2 dozen hurt in San Francisco light rail train crash

SAN FRANCISCO, July 13 (UPI) -- Nearly two dozen people were injured Saturday when a light-rail train and a van collided collided in San Francisco, authorities said.

A San Francisco Fire Department dispatcher told KGO-TV, San Francisco, the collision involving the San Francisco Municipal Transportation train occurred about 1 p.m. PDT.

The San Francisco Chronicle reported about eight people suffered moderate injuries, another 11 were treated for minor injuries and two were treated at the scene.

City spokesman Paul Rose said van driver made an illegal left turn as the light rail train was slowing for a stop. Rose said the driver of the train would be tested for drugs and alcohol, a routine procedure in accidents involving trains.
