PORTLAND, Ore., July 11 (UPI) -- A former nurse at a Portland, Ore., hospital appeared in court Thursday charged with raping three women in the emergency room.

Jeffrey McAllister, 38, pleaded not guilty to the charges, The (Portland) Oregonian reported. He was arrested Wednesday after a grand jury handed up an indictment charging him with sodomy and sex abuse.

Bail was set at $2.26 million.

Investigators said one of the three alleged victims reported the assault in April. McAllister allegedly molested one woman in September and two earlier this year in private rooms in the ER at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.

Police are trying to determine if there were other attacks at that hospital or at another hospital where McAllister worked part time.

Before becoming a nurse, McAllister was a police officer in Seaside and Beaverton on the Oregon coast.
