STARKE, Fla., July 10 (UPI) -- A relative of a Florida woman killed in 1988 is angry because a county judge has delayed the execution of the man convicted of killing her.
Marshall Lee Gore, 49, was scheduled to receive a lethal injection Wednesday evening but a Bradford County circuit judge postponed his execution after finding there are "reasonable grounds to believe" Gore is insane, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.
The delay was not welcome news for the family of Robyn Gayle Novick, 30, whose body was found in a trash heap in southwest Miami-Dade County in 1988.
Cousin Phil Novick told the Sentinel that he doesn't know why "we have to protect individuals like this when it was clearly shown that he was responsible for the death."
Gore's attorney Todd Scher said the law is very clear that someone who is not sane cannot be executed.
Hearings on Gore's stay of execution have not been scheduled.
