Families of students killed in plane crash head to U.S.

SAN FRANCISCO, July 8 (UPI) -- The parents of Chinese students who died in a plane crash in San Francisco headed to the United States Monday, officials said.

Teachers and Chinese government officials accompanied 12 relatives of two teenage girls killed in the Saturday crash and two other students who were injured to the United States, China's official Xinhua News Agency reported.

They are expected to arrive in San Francisco on Tuesday.

Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crashed while landing at the San Francisco International Airport Saturday, killing the two Chinese students and injuring 182 others.

The girls who were killed were part of a group of 30 students and five teachers from Jiangshan Middle School in eastern China's Zhejiang province who were traveling to the United States to attend a summer camp.

Jiangshan Mayor Mao Zhengshan urged Chinese nationals living in San Francisco to provide assistance to the surviving students.
