LAS VEGAS, July 7 (UPI) -- A Nevada wildfire, sparked by lightning six days ago, had burned more than 14,000 acres of forest land by Sunday and was 15 percent contained, officials said.

The U.S. Forest Service said the Carpenter One fire on Mount Charleston near Las Vegas was generally moving eastward, but possibly could turn to the north into Kyle and Lee canyons, southwest toward Trout Creek and east to Lovell Canyon and Harris Springs Canyon, KSNV-TV, Las Vegas, reported.

Jay Nichols, information officer for the Spring Mountains Recreation area, said 16 teams, comprised of 628 personnel, were fighting the fire as of Sunday with more firefighters arriving.

Firefighters have been working mostly to protect structures as they weigh options to contain the fire, the TV station reported.

About 520 people had been evacuated from the area.

"So far we have had no injuries and no structures have been lost. About 400 residential structures are at risk; that means some of them are within a mile or so of the fire. There are about another 100 outbuildings, such as animal sheds, that are also at risk," Nichols said.

A public meeting was scheduled for Sunday evening at Centennial High School for fire management authorities to answer questions from the public.
