Thousand gather under Gateway Arch for Fair St. Louis

Thousands of people flocked to downtown St. Louis over the Fourth of July weekend for fireworks and performances by Trace Atkins, Brett Michaels and the Counting Crows.

The three-day Fair St. Louis festival took place under the Gateway Arch in what some say could be the largest fair in its history.

Police provided extra security around the venue to prevent thieves from targeting cars at the fair's parking areas.

“The change in the console your cell phone your purse your laptop your iPad, those are invitations for criminals to break in and steal those.” said Chief Sam Dotson of the St. Louis Metro Police Department.

As part of the festivities there was an airshow Friday and two riverboats, the Queen of the Mississippi and American Queen docked on the Mississippi riverfront.

The Fair St. Louis venue hosts concerts throughout the summer, featuring performances by Josh Turner, The Urge, K'Naan and Needtobreathe.
