NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev., July 1 (UPI) -- Police said Monday they arrested a suspect in the 1986 kidnapping death of a 7-year-old girl whose body was found in a storage locker outside Las Vegas.

Jasper Goodard was arrested in Missouri and was awaiting extradition to North Las Vegas to face charges in the slaying of April Marie Rhodes.

The girl's battered body was found in a storage locker just a few doors down from her family's home. She had disappeared from her bedroom the previous day and had apparently been sexually assaulted and beaten to death.

Details on what led police to Goddard were not immediately revealed; however, KLAS-TV in Las Vegas said police had previously obtained DNA earlier in the investigation.
