VISTA, Calif., June 30 (UPI) -- A San Diego-area man detained a suspect who allegedly had been bothering his young daughter while she was walking home Saturday, sheriff's deputies said.

The father and his 13-year-old daughter drove around their Vista neighborhood with a friend until they spotted the suspect's vehicle and got him to pull over.

San Diego County sheriff's deputies said the father asked the other driver, later identified as Javier Martinez, if he had been following his child. Martinez at first denied the allegation and then tried to run away but was grabbed by the other two men and held for deputies, U-T San Diego said.

Martinez, 48, was booked for annoying a child and suspicion of attempted kidnapping.

The girl told her father the man had been following her in a white truck as she walked home from a store. She said he repeatedly asked her if she wanted a ride and twice told her to get into his vehicle.
