WASHINGTON, June 30 (UPI) -- U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi defended her criticism of Edward Snowden Sunday, saying he may not have critical security information.
Pelosi's comments on NBC's "Meet the Press" came after she was booed when speaking to a progressive group about Snowden, the former National Security Agency contractor who allegedly leaked details about the country's mass surveillance programs to the press.
During that talk, she objected to Snowden being called a hero.
"By the way it was a smattering when I objected to him being called a hero, and yes, he did break the law," she said on NBC's Meet the Press.
She also said his recent actions are even more worrying.
"But I think that anybody thought he was a hero to begin with now that he's threatening in any event to share information with Russia and China ... I think that should disabuse anybody of the notion that he is a hero," she said.
Pelosi also said that she doesn't think Snowden has that much information about the security programs—and without much evidence to the contrary, his capture is not crucial.
"I don't know that he has that much stuff. Since I don't know, he may know something about the machinery. I don't know that he knows that much about the content," she said.
