June 30, 2013 at 10:09 AM

TAMPA, Fla., June 30 (UPI) -- A Florida man has been accused of strangling a puppy, chopping it up, and cooking it on a stove, police said.

Police were called to the home of Thomas Elliot Huggins, 25, on Thursday after the alleged incident, CNN reported.

"When officers arrived, they found the dog's ribs cooked in a pot on the stove," Tampa police said. "The dog's head was in the garbage."

Authorities said Huggins chopped up the 5- to 6-month-old puppy and stored parts of it in his freezer for future meals.

Huggins was arrested at the scene on suspicion of animal cruelty.
