ORLANDO, Fla., June 30 (UPI) -- A Florida man died in a road rage incident in which a person in another car allegedly pulled up along side his vehicle and shot him, police said.

Fred William Turner Jr., 47, of Orlando, died Saturday night on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 near Interstate 75, WTSP-TV, St. Petersburg, Fla., reported Sunday.

Turner had called police to report someone had been following him after he left a store. He said the vehicle followed him onto Interstate 4 and pulled up alongside him. A person inside allegedly brandished what he described as a semi-automatic weapon, WTSP reported.

Police said Turner told police he did nothing to cause anyone to follow him.

The dispatcher on the phone with Turner said they heard multiple gunshots and Turner pulled over where he died at the scene.

Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee said the suspect or suspects may be driving a newer model gray Taurus with tinted windows.
