PHILADELPHIA, June 28 (UPI) -- Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is to receive this year's Liberty Medal, the National Constitution Center announced Thursday.

The presentation to the possible 2016 presidential candidate, scheduled for Sept. 10 in Philadelphia, will be made by another potential White House contender, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Bush is the center's current chairman.

"Former Secretary Clinton has dedicated her life to serving and engaging people across the world in democracy," Bush said. "These efforts as a citizen, an activist, and a leader have earned Secretary Clinton this year's Liberty Medal."

Since the first medal was awarded to Polish leader Lech Walesa in 1989, it has gone to a diverse list of recipients, including last year's honoree, celebrated boxer Muhammad Ali. Clinton is the third woman to be honored after Japanese U.N. envoy Sadako Ogata and Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

In 2006, the medal was given to two U.S. presidents from opposite parties, Bush's father and Clinton's husband.
