BOSTON, June 27 (UPI) -- Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was indicted on charges of using weapons of mass destruction and killing four people, U.S. prosecutors said.

The federal grand jury returned a 30-count indictment against Tsarnaev, NBC News said.

Tsarnaev, 19, was accused of setting off two bombs near the finish line of the marathon April 15 with the help of his brother Tamerlan, who was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police. The brothers were from the Caucasus region in Russia.

Three people died in the blasts. Investigators said they believe the brothers killed a university police officer in the days after the attack as they tried to evade capture.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured after a massive manhunt in the Boston area after Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a shootout with police.
