LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, Ariz., June 26 (UPI) -- A military jet crashed west of Luke Air Force Base in Arizona Wednesday, but the pilots were able to safely eject from the aircraft, officials said.

"There has been an incident at the base and an investigation is beginning," The Arizona Republic quoted base spokesman Rusty Mitchell as saying. "We did have an aircraft incident ... and we should know something in a little bit."

The pilots were being treated in an ambulance as a precaution, the newspaper said.

Firefighters at a Rural Metro fire station saw the pilots eject as the jet went down near Litchfield and Northern roads, Glendale Fire Department spokesman Michael Young said.
