Tropical Storm Cosme weakens over cold Pacific waters

MIAMI, June 26 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Cosme weakened over colder waters in the Pacific Ocean Wednesday as it moved away from the west coast of Mexico, forecasters said.

Cosme, which was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm earlier in the day, was about 545 miles west-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said in its 8 p.m. PDT advisory.

The storm was moving west-northwest at 14 mph, with a turn toward the west expected over the next two days.

Cosme is expected to diminish to a remnant low-pressure area by Friday.

No coastal watches or warnings were in effect, but forecasters said large swells will cause dangerous surf and rip current conditions in Baja California and along the Mexican coast from Acapulco to Los Mochis.
