The Lauderhill Mall was partly locked down after the fight Tuesday afternoon, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported. Lauderhill Police Lt. Michael Butkus said a 16-year-old boy suffered minor injuries and a 16-year-old girl was arrested.
Most of the teens present at the fight were onlookers, Butkus said. He said only about 15 participated in the fight, which started when two girls began brawling outside a Dollar Store.
Butkus said there was no property destruction and he dismissed rumors the fight was somehow connected to the trial in Sanford, Fla., of George Zimmerman, charged with killing unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin.
Danielle Jozwiak told the Sun Sentinel she was shopping in the Dollar Store when the fight began.
"They had the sidewalk and the whole road full of kids," she said.
Police from several departments responded to help disperse the crowd. The mall was locked down after some teenagers ran inside.
