MADERA, Calif., June 26 (UPI) -- A man and woman are suspected of setting a series of brushfires in the California community of Yosemite Lakes Park, police said.

Kenneth Alan Jackson, 40, and Allison Marie Waterman, 46, both of Coarsegold, Calif., were arrested Tuesday, KFSN-TV, Fresno, reported. They are being held in Madera County on arson charges.

Cal Fire said Jackson was charged with 31 counts and Waterman with one.

"The Yosemite Lakes Park community has been threatened by countless wildfires over the past several months that we believe were a result of arson,"Chief Nancy Koerperich, unit chief for the Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit, said in a statement. "We appreciate the community's support and assistance as we worked to track down these suspects."

Coarsegold and Yosemite Lakes Park are both unincorporated communities in the Sierras near Yosemite National Park.
