Wildfires burn across Colorado

DENVER, June 21 (UPI) -- Wildfires burned at multiple sites across Colorado, with homes and other buildings at risk and no relief expected from the weather, officials said.

The East Peak fire, originally named the Scout Ranch fire, grew to 9,000 acres in the southern part of the state, with 10 structures, including a Boy Scout ranch, destroyed and zero percent containment, The Denver post reported Friday.

The West Fork fire, which has burned 18,000 acres in southwestern Colorado, forced evacuations and the closure of U.S. Route 160, authorities said.

Closer to Denver, Jefferson County's Lime Gulch fire has burned 600 acres, the newspaper said, adding other wildfires are raging in Rio Blanco County and north of Table Mountain.

The National Weather Service said Friday its forecast for the next seven days includes temperature in the 90s.

The fire near Colorado Springs that destroyed at least 509 homes and killed two people last week was declared 100 percent contained Thursday.
