University of Chicago student found dead in Lake Michigan

CHICAGO, June 20 (UPI) -- A fisherman discovered the body of a missing University of Chicago student floating in Lake Michigan, police said.

Austin Hudson-Lapore, 20, had been missing since June 12 when his father, Greg Lapore, speculated he may have gone out to observe incoming storms because he was fascinated with weather, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday.

An autopsy to determine the biochemistry student's cause of death was scheduled for Thursday, the newspaper said.

Eddie Hudson, 65, said he found Hudson-Lapore's body Wednesday when he went to the lake to fish near 39th Street Beach.

"I saw a body, which I thought was a log," he said. "And I walked a little bit closer, then I thought it was a dummy. ... I discovered it wasn't a dummy and then I called 911."

Lapore said he had no reason to believe his son may have been distraught.

"He's a smart, happy and outgoing young man who was fully engaged in his community," he said.
