ALBANY, N.Y., June 19 (UPI) -- A plot by an individual to build and sell a deadly mobile radiation device was uncovered in Albany, N.Y., a federal complaint unsealed Wednesday revealed.

Glendon Scott Crawford, 49, of Galway, N.Y., an industrial mechanic with General Electric, is accused of developing a truck-mounted "radiation-emitted device" that could "covertly emit ionizing radiation strong enough to bring about radiation sickness or death," the complaint said.

Eric J. Feight, 54, of Hudson, N.Y., an electronics company employee, is identified as a co-conspirator, accused of agreeing to help design controls for the device.

The investigation involved an undercover FBI agent posing as a supplier of radiation equipment such as X-ray tubes, the (Albany, N.Y.) Times-Union reported Wednesday.

Crawford allegedly visited an Albany-area synagogue in April 2012 and "asked to speak with a person who might be willing to help him with a type of technology that could be used by Israel to defeat its enemies, specifically by killing Israel's enemies while they slept," the complaint states. He telephoned an Albany-area Jewish organization, later that day, with a similar offer.

In telephone calls recorded by the FBI, Crawford identified himself as a Ku Klux Klan member.

Crawford and Feight were arrested Tuesday by an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Albany Wednesday. Both men were ordered held without bond, the newspaper said.
