Car crashes into New York City grocery store, eight injured

NEW YORK, June 19 (UPI) -- A car collided with another car, jumped a curb and smashed into a grocery store in New York City Wednesday, injuring eight people, police said.

The cars crashed at 7:30 a.m. near Second Avenue and East Fourth Street in the East Village, WNBC-TV reported.

Fire officials said eight people were hospitalized, three of them in serious condition.

Five of the injured had been inside the vehicle that hit the store after crashing through a bike rack and three others were in or around the store, the East Village Farm, WABC-TV said.

The crash left twisted bicycles on the sidewalk and shattered glass in the street, WNBC-TV said.
