No one was hurt when the eastbound Long Island Rail Road train jumped the track in an East River tunnel at the height of rush hour, WNBC, New York, reported.
The train was moved back to the station so passengers could disembark, but several LIRR train runs were canceled and some westbound service was suspended, the TV station said. The mishap caused delays for other eastbound trains.
Amtrak said the 6 p.m. derailment, which blocked access to two of the four East River tunnels, was delaying its trains heading north toward Boston by up to an hour.
