SAN FRANCISCO, June 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. Marshals Service announced the arrest of Marcus Tillman, wanted in Georgia on counts of child molestation, aggravated sodomy and cruelty to children.

Tillman, 42, was sought by authorities after escaping from his 2009 trial in Forsyth County, Ga. He was convicted in absentia and sentenced to 40 years in prison, a statement from the Marshals Service said, adding Tillman was apprehended Sunday in San Francisco.

U.S. Marshal Don O'Keefe referred to Tillman's crime as "a very heinous crime against his own children ... . When the U.S. Marshal's Service in San Francisco received information Tillman was in the San Francisco Bay area, his arrest became our No. 1 priority."

Tillman will be extradited to Georgia to begin his sentence, the statement said.
