BOSTON, June 16 (UPI) -- A poll Sunday found Democrat Edward Markey with a double-digit lead over Republican Gabriel Gomez in the race for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by John Kerry.

The Boston Globe poll gave Congressman Markey 54 percent of the vote to 41 percent for Gomez, a former Navy SEAL and Harvard Business School graduate.

The Globe said 4 percent of the voters were still undecided as the campaign entered its final week. When the voters who were leaning toward one candidate or another were factored in, Markey led 54-43 percent.

The poll surveyed 508 likely voters from June 11-14 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points.
